NICOSIA — Iran has reported the testing of advanced missiles.
Officials said the Iranian Defense Ministry has overseen the testing of a laser-guided ballistic missile. They said the missile, called Bina, was designed to be fired from aircraft as well as ground launchers.
Test fire of what is said to be Iran’s Bina missile.
Officials said Iran would continue missile development despite Western pressure. The United States has vowed to address Iran’s missile programs as part of a comprehensive reconciliation accord.
“Iran’s defense-related issues are not up for negotiations,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said. “We will not discuss any issue other than the nuclear dossier in the negotiations.”
Iran has often pledged to use its new missiles against adversaries. On Feb. 7, Iranian state television broadcast a simulation of an Iranian missile and unmanned aerial vehicle attack on Israel and the United States.
The government broadcast, the second in less than four months, showed a computerized video of Iranian air strikes on Israel’s Tel Aviv, Haifa, Ben Gurion Airport and the Dimona nuclear reactor. Another target shown was the U.S Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.
“Bina could strike important targets, such as bridges, armored vehicles, tanks and command control buildings,” Iranian Defense Minister Hussein Dehqan said.
In a statement on Feb. 10, Dehqan said a surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a fragmentation warhead was also tested. He said the missile, termed a next-generation system with multiple warheads, could penetrate any Israeli or U.S. ballistic missile defense umbrella.
“Evading enemy’s anti-missile defense systems, the capability of destroying massive targets and destroying multiple targets are specifications of this missile,” Dehqan said on Feb. 11.
Meanwhile, the Iran regime has confirmed that its reported “rapprochement” with the United States had not altered its strategic objectives.
“And America, its regional puppets and its guard dog, the Zionist regime, should know that the response of the Iranian nation to any kind of aggression, attacks or even threats will be a response that will make them collapse from within,” Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei said.
